The Weaker Sex

August 23rd, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in ramblings

I read over on Another Day in the Antz Farm there was a study done recently that suggested that women are tougher than men.  To that I just have to say “duh!” Of course they are tougher; they give BIRTH for Christ’s sake!!

If you were to try to make men have children there would never be any need to worry about over population.  After the first kid, every man in the world would swear off sex and probably even alcohol just so he can’t get drunk and mistakenly have sex. Seriously, we men are big babies when it comes to pain.

If we get hurt we’ll sit there and say “Oh, it’s just a scratch” but what we really want is the girlfriend/wife/significant other to say “Oh, you poor baby” and then bring us a beer.  We like that kind of stuff.  That’s why we play contact sports, so we can get hurt and have beer brought to us.

Also, can you imagine how much trouble would be caused if men were the child bearers??  The entire range of professional sports would be thrown into chaos:

“Well, the Colts looked like they were on their way for a great year but with Peyton announcing that he is pregnant he’s going to be out for the rest of the season.  Tough break for the Colts.”

“That’s right Chris, but he has a really nice glow about him.”

Iron Man

Marvel Comics is making yet another movie, this time it is Iron Man.  In their never ending attempt to turn out bad movies such as The Punisher, The Fantastic Four (both of them), Captain America – straight to video that one and I really like Captain America too, and finally – the Hulk they are now doing Iron Man.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved Marvel Comics back in the day when it was about the stories rather than the marketing.  When guys like John Byrne was working on  X-men they were great and the characters were good.  I picked up one the other day all about the “Superhero Registration Act”  or some such garbage and all I could think was it was a poorly disguised political piece about Gitmo and how much the liberals don’t like Bush (yes, Stan Lee is a big Clinton supporter).

So, anyway, back to the movie.  ILM is doing the special effects and from the shots I’ve seen, they got the armor right, it looks like Iron Man, but what I don’t get is that they got Robert Downey Jr to play Tony Stark.  WTF??  Is there anyone that looks at Robert Downey Jr and thinks “Wow, hero material right here”?  I seriously doubt it.

For my money, they should have picked Ed Quinn I mean he LOOKS like he would design a suit of powered armor and kick someone’s ass with it.  Robert Downey looks like he might build it but would then decide that he was kind of tired and take a nap for a while and then maybe he would get back to it later on at some time. And here is the plot synopsis of the movie:

When Tony Stark is forced to create a life support suit to keep him alive after an accident he decides to use the technology in his suit to fight crime.

Once again, WTF??  In the comics he was captured by the North Vietnamese and forced to build weapons for them.  He turns the tables on them, builds his suit of armor and busts out.  Now that is a good bio and story.  Just update it to North Korea and you have a winner.  I am sure that they changed it so no one would be “offended”.

Ah well, I just hope it doesn’t suck as bad as the Fantastic Four did.
