Cats I have known

November 30th, 2007 | 4 Comments | Posted in Furballs

This is my friend Angee’s cat, Mojo.  He’s cute and silly and for some reason likes to stick his head in peoples shoes

This is Roo.  She passed away before we moved out to San Francisco.  She used to love to burrow under the blankets and would stay there all day.  I miss her a lot

A non-offensive Christmas

November 29th, 2007 | 3 Comments | Posted in People are Stupid, WTF

I was down in San Francisco for class today and the school has decorated their street posts with the new Christmas banner.  Now normally I have no problem with any kind of holiday decoration unless its something like putting up a Christmas tree before you have even had Halloween yet, but this one was different.

It had the normal Christmas image; this one was of Tiny Tim sitting on his dad’s shoulder waving his little crutch up in the air.  Dad is gazing up at him with a loving look on his face and both of them have that big silly grin that every Christmas image has.  The problem on it is the quote, it says “Bless us everyone!”

Bless us everyone.  What the hell??

The quote, since I guess no one at my school has EVER seen or read “A Christmas Carol”, “Scrooge”, or any of the other MULTPLE remakes they have done of it over the years upon years that it has been around and we have had Christmas movies and TV specials, goes like this “GOD bless us everyone!”

See, there is a word that they forgot – God.  It’s part of the quote.  Doesn’t really make a lot of sense without the word ‘god’ in there either.  “Bless us everyone”… so Tiny Tim is now asking everyone to bless him and his dad?  See, totally changes the meaning of the quote because what Tiny Tim (as I am sure all of you know) is asking is for GOD to bless EVERYONE which is certainly a lot different that asking everyone to bless Tim and his dad.

So me, being me, I went to find some answers as to why they couldn’t get a simple quote correct.  I mean it’s one word right?  Must have been someone real special who couldn’t remember the whole quote, but no one knew who I could go and see to find out who was responsible for this obvious screw up on a simple sign.

The best I could get out of anyone was this:  Well, they probably didn’t want to offend anyone.

Then don’t put up any decorations at all!!

Look, this is CHRISTMAS, it is a CHRISTIAN Holiday that’s why it is CHRISTmas see!  The word Christ is even in the name right there out in front so you can’t miss it.  This whole thing about “we don’t want to offend people of other faiths” is complete and total bullshit.

I am not a Christian and I am not offended by Christmas, it is part of our culture.  If you come from some other culture and you hate Christmas, I would say you are in the wrong country.   Over 90% of the population of this country identifies themselves as Christians but on the holiday that is one of the most important to Christians the PC attitude is to remove all religious reference from it and turn it into some sort of grab-ass secular bullshit.

See, here’s the thing. All these PC assholes talk about tolerance but they don’t mean it, what they really mean is that they want everyone to do things their way and if they don’t like something then it is bad and needs to be suppressed so that “No one is offended”.   Well, I’m offended by the attitude that it is OK to screw with one groups holiday because “someone might be offended by it”

Tough SHIT!  There isn’t one damn thing in the Constitution of the United States that says you are protected from being offended.

Once again – CHRISTMAS is a CHRISTIAN holiday.  You don’t want to celebrate a Christian holiday then don’t, but don’t pull this crap about “Oh, we’ll just remove all religious reference from it and then celebrate it.”  Well, dude, you do that and then it’s not Christmas and let’s not even pretend that it is, OK?   Instead all you are doing is trying to hack into it so that maybe someone will give you a present or, if you’re a company, that some Christian will come in and spend money buying crap at your store so they can celebrate their holiday and you can make money off of them.

So to all you people out there getting ready for Christmas if you want to celebrate it, then do it right.  If you don’t like it, then at least be honest about it and say so and don’t decorate or anything,  but quit trying to screw it up for the people that it’s important to.

Senior Thesis

November 28th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in School

One of the things we have to do as Graduate art students is have a thesis project that we complete before we are allowed to graduate.  Usually you come up with your thesis idea after your first year of grad school and you then present it to your department lead and the Dean of your department – in my case Computer Animation – and once they approve it you continue with it and then finish it as your graduation project.

Well, I must just be lucky or something because a few weeks ago after a long night, little sleep and some Taco Bell I came up with my idea.  I wont go into any details here because I don’t really want it to be snatched up by someone else who may bebop through here but I think it’s good and so does the dean and my department lead.  So, now I am about a year ahead of schedule for my project.

The dean’s words to me on it were “Well, let me put it this way: If you DON’T do this for your thesis project I will hold you here and not let you graduate until you DO make it.”  I guess that is the stamp of approval I was needing.

So, I’ve started with some preliminary sketches, I have a couple of 3D models I am working on that will be part of the project and I’ve got the documentation started for it.

My big hope is that it will be a good enough project that it will not only get me a job, but maybe turn into an actual game under my direction.  I don’t want to have this idea and then have to turn it over to someone else to make into reality because lets face it, it’s my idea.  my preccccccious  :)

If it does become real though I will be a very happy camper.  It’s a fun idea that spoofs quite a few things but isn’t ‘just’ a spoof, it has it’s own life and rythm that I think would make it very popular.

Guess I will just have to wait and see.

Back to normal… kind of

November 28th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in webstuff

I don’t know what happened, how it happened, or why it happened but after removing WordPress and deleting the MySql database it was on and then redoing the whole thing it all seems like it is back to normal… well, almost.

I still need to get a template up that I like until I finish my own personal one.  I just have to learn some more about CSS first and it will be ready to go.
