Spring Break

March 23rd, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Animation Stuff, ramblings, School

Spring Break has been on all last we for me and the wife and I but instead of catering to your desire for new and interesting posts, I instead caught up on all my Scrubs episodes that I had missed, started some new projects, and added the finishing touches to some other ones.

Hard Surface modeling we were building cars so I got the one I was working on finished except for the decal emblems and the windshield wipers, otherwise it is ready to go and get textured next semester.  I think it came out very nice, but I am also sure that a year from now I will probably look back at it and say “OH MY GOD!  What was I thinking – That’s TERRIBLE!!!”

Anyway, here it is so everyone can have a look at it.

As I said, textures will be added next semester when I take a textures class.

I have been enjoying the news though, Obama’s Aide saying that Bill Clinton is just like McCarthy because they say Obama’s patriotism was questioned.  Gee, Barack, how could anyone question YOUR patriotism when you have Cuban flags hanging in your campaign office, your pastor (who you’ve been with for 20 some years) makes blatant anti-American sermons, and you refused to put your hand over your heart at a campaign debate during the national anthem – noooooo, how could we wonder about your loyalties with these kind of examples to look at.

Personally though I would never compare Clinton to McCarthy, at least McCarthy had some morals and guidelines he followed.

Also, I love how Obama supporters have been saying that the only reason Hillary is a contender is because of her husband.  Priceless.  Neither side apparently wants to start pointing at each others really crappy record because if that happens then it will follow them into the general election so instead they speak in generalities and say stupid crap like this.

So both side of the loving, inclusive liberal left that hates racism, sexism and inequality is now using racism and sexism to rip into each other like a pack of starving rabid dogs fighting over a dead rabbit.  Yes folks, this is the Democratic party at it’s finest.   Can’t wait till Hillary wins the primary and then they can all scream about how “She stole the election!”  I’ll just sit back with some popcorn and watch the show unfold.

So, come Tuesday it’s back to class and on Wednesday there is a job fair for a Borders store that is opening here in Alameda.  Hope I can get a job with them, this whole unemployed thing really sucks.

**UPDATE**

Speaking of racism, here’s a nice little article about Barack and how he has treated his white grandmother

“I can no more disown [Rev. Wright] than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother - a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.”

All I can say to that part of his speach is that you choose your friends, not your family. And if he chooses to be with ‘reverend’ who is a racist then it says quite a bit about him as a person.

It also says a lot that he would sacrifice the person who raised him in the name of politics.

The New ‘Hip’ Sins

March 10th, 2008 | 6 Comments | Posted in ramblings, WTF

Well, it seems that the good ol’ standard seven deadly sins of our parent’s day weren’t good enough for the new Pope. Nope, not good enough at all, so he added a few new ones to the list.

In case you didn’t see this article the new sins are:

polluting, genetic engineering, being obscenely rich, drug dealing, abortion, pedophilia and causing social injustice

The last one is sufficiently vague that I’m sure they will get quite a bit of mileage out of it for years to come while never quite condemning anyone who actually HAS caused a social injustice worth condemning like – oh, I don’t know – China, Darfur, Syria, Iran.

The other one that gets me is the “being obscenely rich” one. So, I guess then that the entire Vatican is going to go straight to hell because I will bet my left testicle that the hat Pope Benedict XVI wears in all of his public appearances costs more than my parents have ever earned in their whole life. So, they would qualify as ‘obscenely rich’ in my book then.

Next up is the sin of genetic engineering. So, this is a sin too. Using gene therapy to cure autoimmune diseases and using it to find a cure for ones like Huntington’s disease, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), and cystic fibrosis which are all caused by a defective gene is now a sin?

It would be wonderful if the Catholic Church was as wise and knowledgeable as they claim to be, but the more that representatives of the church speak, the more out of touch with reality they show themselves to be. Abortion is a sin, but so is using birth control so you don’t GET pregnant. To the church, the only time I guess I should have sex with my wife is when we are going to have a kid. Doesn’t matter that we are being responsible in how we live our lives and have decided that we would not be able to properly raise a child at this time so we are waiting. No, according to the church I’m going to go to hell because I’m not adding another body to this world.

They used the same line in Africa too where the country is highly Catholic and AIDS is through the roof. Don’t use condoms, Africa, it’s a SIN. Well, thanks for the help in getting AIDS under control, we’ll call you if there are any other problems you can help us with, like confronting bastard dictators the way Pope Innocent did during WWII – his new name is Pope Gutless Bastard I.

I think the Catholic Church, as an organization, has no interest in helping people just become better people. Individual priests do, but the machine that is “The Church” is more concerned with power and control. They want a congregation that follows their word blindly because of the fear of burning in hell once you die. Fear is used to control you and then it is compounded by saying that a devout follower must confess his sins to his pastor – so now we have guilt and sin, what a nice control combination.

The saddest part about it all to me is that I have actually had people say to me “You’re such a nice guy, I hate to think of you burning in hell when you die” as a way to try and get me to convert and go to church with them. If I’m going to burn in hell because I don’t have a membership card to your club and not because of anything I did, then I would have to say that the God these people believe in isn’t one I would follow anyway.

I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever, in religion, in philosophy, in politics or in anything else, where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could not go to Heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all. – Thomas Jefferson

**UPDATE**

The wife made an interesting point.  So now that the church is interested in saving the planet are they going to become just like all those pagan faiths that they spent many years trying to wipe out?  Next thing you know the Church will refer to the planet as “Mother Earth”

March Madness

March 8th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in People are Stupid

No, I’m not referring to basketball.  For me, March madness is called midterms.

I have my thesis idea well under way now.  I pitched it to the Dean of my department, The lead for my division (game design),to my pre-production class, and finally my game design class.  So now, I have been busting my butt getting references, photos, working up concept drawings, doing the documentation to protect my copyrights and even beginning the design for the website as well as FINALLY getting back to having my own portfolio site up and running.

Suffice it to say that I have been busier than a one-legged man in an ass kicking contest and that has given me very little time to even think about blogging.  Shame too because there has been so much stupid crap going on in the circus that we call an election cycle that I would have loved to make snarky comments about.  But, since I am late to the party on that I’ll just leave it alone this time.

I will comment on this though.  One of the workers at the slaughterhouse who is in jail for animal abuse is saying that he was just following orders

“That’s how I was taught. He taught me to do the work. I didn’t know it was a serious crime,” Sanchez told the San Bernardino Sun in an interview published Friday.

Well, let me just say this.  One, ignorance of the law is no excuse no matter where you are.  I am fairly certain that most reasonable individuals when told to use a forklift to push a cow back up would probably say “Gee, something doesn’t sound right about that.”  Especially when they are also told to “use care when federal inspectors were around.”  See, that’s what you call a clue – which this guy doesn’t seem to have.

Two, he says

“I think it’s unjust that I’m here. Where are the people in charge?” he told the newspaper.

I bet they will get theirs too, but this guy is here illegally in the first place so to me it’s not unjust at all that he is in jail.  He broke the law getting here and our punishment for breaking the law is jail.  That’s how it works – oh, but I am sure in was taught something different.
