Champions Online

December 30th, 2009 | 2 Comments | Posted in Games

I’ve always loved superheros.  When I was in the Navy a group of us would get together on Sundays while we were out at sea and play Champions.  We would also do D&D (we replaced some of the combat rules with Arms Law and Spell Law), but Champions was the fun “beat the crap out of bad guys” game.

So, when I learned that there was going to be a Champions Online game it made me happy, but cautious.  Would they do it right?  Would they use the rule books as foundation for the online play?  Would the quests be any good?  The answer to all of the above is no.  Not just no, really, but Hell NO!

I did a one month subscription while it was on sale and it is probably the worst MMO out there as far as being fun really goes.  Character creation is a formulaic as every other MMO and even when doing a costume design there are some items only available if you choose this option and not if you choose that one.  Stupid.  I could go on and on about it, but Shamus over at Twenty Sided has already said most everything I could thing of about this sad example of a good RPG turned into a lousy MMO.

Starting off, I decide to create the quintessential silver-age superhero. Not one of these brooding black-caped, spike-covered, angst-ridden antiheroes like all the young people are into these days. I want someone wearing classic tights and using classic iconography. But not, you know, operating under the same silver-age idealism and respect for all life. Heavens no. I’m going to have the same approach to fighting crime as The Punisher. I’ll just be wearing stretchy clothing and a brave smile when I do my vigilante-style killing.

I will leave you with this though.  A screenshot of my character Warlord.  He was supposed to be named ‘Warlock’ since his powers were magically derived but that name was unacceptable to the server, so was ‘Warhawk’ and ‘Warsong’.  No idea why, it just was.    I will also add that while Warlord, as you can see, is strong enough to lift a Humvee with a curb weight of 5,900 lbs, he was still not strong enough to knock out a street thug with one punch.

Thus is the logic of Champions Online

This SOB needs to be killed

A pediatrician videotaped himself molesting his patients.

The detective, who noted he had viewed thousands of child molestation images, described the video “as one of the most violent and brutal attacks on a child of any age” that he had seen.

There are three crimes I think a person should be executed for; Murder, Rape, and Child Molestation.  All of those crimes destroy the person and scar them and their families for the rest of their lives.  I see no reason they should be allowed to continue living.

There is not one thing that they can do that will EVER make up for the damage they cause, and I see no reason to leave the possibility open that they could possible get out and do it to someone else.

God knows if it was my child this happened to the police wouldn’t have to look far if he turned up dead in a ditch somewhere.

December 27th, 2009 | 4 Comments | Posted in I heart Sarah Palin, Libtards

Tori Amos thinks B Hussein Obambi is dreamy and that she is going to run for office if Sarah Palin does.

She says, “If Palin runs again, I’m going to run on a Republican ticket. What I know about Middle Eastern policy could fit on a thumbnail, but I still know more than she does. You have to ask, how could a nation nearly vote in somebody who isn’t qualified for the job?”

Well first, you insignificant twit, you are right that you don’t know shit from a hole in the ground but, just because you watched Katie Couric’s interview doesn’t mean you know a damn thing about what Sarah knows.  She has managed to run a town government, a state government, negotiated deals with Canada as well as forcing oil companies to drill on the lands they had leased so that we could have the oil and natural gas we need, and did it all while raising a family with her husband.  What the fuck have you done besides write some crappy songs that no one really listens to?  Do you even balance your checkbook or do you have someone do that for you too?

Also, I would say that her stint as a Mayor and Governor make her a heck of a lot more qualified than the community organizer in chief who only got where he is by selling out to the highest bidder.  See, by being a Mayor and a Governor she had a lot more responsibility than just voting “present”.

Second, if you’re going to run on the Republican ticket you actually have to BE a Republican and if you go that route you will prove that you are as big a joke as the Baldwin boys claiming they were going to move to Canada, France or some other fucked up country if someone they didn’t like won the election.  Of course, they didn’t – much to my disappointment.

But Amos feels more positive about the future of her country now U.S. President Barack Obama is in power: “I’m a lot more hopeful. The (George W.) Bush years were really difficult times if you were an American who loved your country. Having someone now that so many people respect doesn’t mean there aren’t going to be problems, but so many problems have been left behind.”

“Someone that so many people respect”??? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME???  Who?  The God Damn Terrorists?  Because he sure ain’t feeling the love here, or haven’t you seen the polls recently, sunshine?

Yeah, a -16 is really a bunch o’ love for the World’s Favorite Socialist, Dr Utopia.

And what “problems” have been left behind???  The problem of actually fighting terrorists since he certainly doesn’t want to do that.  Or maybe it’s the problem of us actually having jobs since he’s screwed that pooch too.  Affordable health care that we can choose to have if we want?  Nope, that’s gone under the wonders of Obamacare.  And please don’t try and say that “Oh, the people are all for this” since 57% of people are strongly opposed to it and only 25% are for it – hell, that’s worse number that Obambi has, and that’s hard to do.

Quit dying your hair, princess, it’s affected your brain.

**Update**

Since commenter Mike was heartsick over my use of a certain word, and since it is the Christmas season of giving, I give him an updated title to this post.

I love this song.  For some reason though our GM doesn’t think we should play the album over the PA system at work.

No idea why.

This one’s pretty damn good too
