I think the freedom not to listen fell out of fashion when the Alinsky Method came into fashion with the left.

Remember what our current President said? "Get in their face" Yeah, that doesn't really sound like respecting the other persons right not to listen.

I like your idea though.

As for the anti-gay jackasses going to soldiers funeral - well, let's just say that I think when they pass on they will have a very rude surprise.

I sometimes wonder at what point in time the freedom of speech ceased to include the freedom to not listen.

Hence, you find your ACLU'er invading your space (I really think it the equivalent of any other physical assault but try sueing for that) trying to force you to engage in his "dialog". When did the monolog, fall out of fashion?

Oh well, I propose a way to fix this that helps the municipal budget.... Have circular posts provided at reasonably spaced intervals that have a faxsimile of a soap box in the center. I will be generous and say the circles should have a 4 ft diameter. Now you add two ordinances, To prosteletize your views via speech, as is your right, you must rent one of these posts (a variation of a parade permit). If you exit the perimeter of the circle to attempt to engage an audience, you can be ticketed just like a traffic violation scaled for the number of people directly acosted and the number of violations on your record. Anyone entering the circle is assumed to be interested in dialog or debate.

Not likely to happen, but I can dream can't I....

It is just like those idiot who invade the mourning of a fallen soldier with those anti-gay or anti-war pickets. How anyone can do that and call themselves Christian.....

My dream for them is the freedom to drive by in a vehicle festooned with "You ______ (fill in your pejoritive of choice" really STINK!. The kicker is they are also sprayed with an oily substance containing butyl mercaptan.
Bet a few random Skunk runs would stop them.
