A new blog to read

July 5th, 2010 | 2 Comments | Posted in Uncategorized, webstuff

Well, it’s new to me at least.  Here’s a bit of it to whet your appetite

I grew up in a time when cartoons were very un PC. Anvils were dropped on heads, explosions could blow one to the moon and falls off a cliff resulted in body shaped holes in the desert floor. All shown uncut and without guilt or shame. Modern cartoons are pretty different. The DO monitors what the kids watch and does a very good job of steering them away from the worst of the brain washing. Still, I thought it was my task to introduce the boy to a cartoon that was manly.

A bit H/T to the blog nobody reads for showing me this

Peaceful Independence Day to you all!

July 4th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in America the beautiful, Books I like, History

I hope that everyone has a peaceful and joy filled Independence Day.   That’s all I will say to mark the occasion, since so many others have said it much better than I can.   So instead I will just recommend a few books.  Hey, what good is it to work in a book store if I don’t make recommendations?

Setting the Record Straight: American History in Black & White

A Patriot’s History of the United States: From Columbus’s Great Discovery to the War on Terror

The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors

Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America’s Enemies

I will also take this moment to say that I am still around but doing the summer semester at school as well as doing the job search thing, updating my website and creating one for my wife’s artwork as well.

So, busy, busy, busy.  But I guess that is better than ‘bored out of my skull’.
