Tam started it…

December 28th, 2011 | 2 Comments | Posted in music, webstuff

I’m just following along

Top fifteen songs on my iPhone

1 – The Warrior Song – The Warrior Project

2- Breakaway – Kelly Clarkson

3- Rolling in the Deep – Adele

4- Cliffs of Dover – Eric Johnson

5- Everywhere – Michelle Branch

6 – Party Like a Rock Star – Sprung Monkey

7 – Knee Deep – Zac Brown Band

8 – Let It Go – Zac Brown Band

9 – Against the Wind – Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band

10 – Rockstar – Nickleback

11 – I Play the Road – Zac Brown Band

12 – This Too Shall Pass – OK Go

13 – I Turn My Camera On – Spoon

14 – Follow Me There – Third Day

15 – I’m Gonna Be (500 miles) – The Proclaimers

Zac Brown seems to dominate the list, but that may be because I took Jimmy Buffet off when I reformatted my phone and haven’t put him back on yet.  Same goes for the Ramones and Talking Heads.

And after looking at the list and seeing Nickelback up there, it reminded me of this (REALLY NSFW.. or really anyone for that matter….)

Well, a tool trinity at least.  My parents and brother got this for me to complete the set

Now I have a Skil sander, drill press and bandsaw – the basic tools required to make some grips.

Guess what this little white duck will be working on today  😀

Love this one.  Simple but very complex at the same time.

Glad They Have Time for This

I guess their economy must be fixed because apparently one of our California state Senators has time for this kind of bullshit.

Lowe’s Home Improvement has found itself facing a backlash after the retail giant pulled ads from a reality show about American Muslims.

The retail giant stopped advertising on TLC’s “All-American Muslim” after a conservative group known as the Florida Family Association complained, saying the program was “propaganda that riskily hides the Islamic agenda’s clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values.”

And what is said Democrat from California doing in response to Lowe’s pulling the ads?  Why, he wants a boycott and ‘Legislative action’ which to my mind means that Congress will pull out some trumped up BS so they can grandstand

Calling the Lowe’s decision “un-American” and “naked religious bigotry,” Sen. Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, told The Associated Press he would also consider legislative action if Lowe’s doesn’t apologize to Muslims and reinstate its ads. The senator sent a letter outlining his complaints to Lowe’s Chief Executive Officer Robert A. Niblock.

“The show is about what it’s like to be a Muslim in America, and it touches on the discrimination they sometimes face. And that kind of discrimination is exactly what’s happening here with Lowe’s,” Lieu said.

Honestly, I find the entire idea of anti-discrimination laws to be absurd.  How many people have not gotten a job and were told “We found someone more qualified” when what they really meant was “Your too old/ blonde/ tall/ short/ whatever…”  The idea of law as behavior modification, to me, goes against the entire idea of freedom.

If someone wants to be a bigot, let them.  I hope they post a big freaking sign outside of their business saying “No _______ allowed!” because then I would know NOT to spend my money there.  Now, those same bigots have just taken it underground.

As far as Lowe’s goes, I can understand them not wanting to advertise on a show that might be a controversial subject, and that is their RIGHT to pick where they want their ad money to go.  For Lieu to say that he will try some sort of legislative action for Lowe’s spending their money how they see fit is not only reprehensible but shows exactly how the leftist mindset goes – You have no rights except what they want you to have.

I have a few more tools to buy for the shop so I think I’ll head over to Lowe’s today even though they are farther away than Home Depot.

Tam pointed out correctly that he is a California state Senator, not a US one.  Corrections applied. I will punish myself by going to the range later.

Overheard at the Dinner Table

December 11th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Family Stuff

We were over at my parents for dinner and the conversation between my dad and I turned toward our days in the military.

ME: So here we are, washing down the bulkhead which has about 30 years of smoke buildup on it…

MOM: Why do you call it a bulkhead?

DAD: Because that’s what it is.

WIFE: But don’t you call the bathroom a ‘Head’?

ME: Yep.

Confused looks pass between my wife and my mom as dad and I sit there grinning.

MOM: Why don’t you just call it a wall like everyone else instead of making it so confusing?

ME: Well, we really do it just to mess with the Marines.

Tools of the Trade

No, not the OWS tools, these tools

Now that I have these I am ready to dive in.  So, tonight as I drive to work I’m making a quick stop at Home Depot to get some fine grain pine so that I can practice with my new toys tools and make some practice grips.

Only thing left to do after that is get the chip carving tools and the woodburning tools – those will be around tax time.  After that, here’s hoping I can make some extra cash!
