The Hell I Didn’t!

So according to Fearless Reader, I didn’t build my business.

President Obama, in a speech to supporters, suggested business owners owe their success to government investment in infrastructure and other projects — saying “if you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that.”
Obama’s comment Friday during a campaign stop in Roanoke, Va., came just days after he urged Congress to extend tax cuts enacted during the Bush administration only to families earning less than $250,000 annually — part of his argument that top earners have an obligation to pay more to trim the deficit.

His argument goes along this line. Because you went to school and were taught something by a teacher that means that the ideas you came up with and turned into a successful business are because of the teacher, ergo – the government built your business, not you.

“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen,” he said. “The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.”

OK, we all KNOW that it was Al “the green man” Gore who created the internet, we also know that it was not created for businesses to connect to each other. It was created for research labs and the military to be able to communicate information more efficiently. The rollout to the rest of the people was a happy coincidence so that we could get our pron for free.

Michelle Malkin was right when she said that Romney was the one who spent his life signing the front of the checks (ie -RUNNING a business) while all Barack has done was cash those checks and sign the back.

Barack seems to think that all businesses begin and end with the government. That because the government built the road (using our money to pay union costs on it) that somehow that makes the businesses who use that road to transport their goods to market beholden to the government for whatever success they achieve.

I have news for you, Mr. Obama (yes, I am not using the term ‘President’ for him) just because someone taught me how to use power tools, and someone else taught me design theory doesn’t mean that they can take credit for what made using those skills, the effort was still mine. The long hours are still MINE, the layouts, the trial and errors, the logos, websites, wood choices, EVERYTHING is still mine! all the government can lay claim to is taxing the hell out of me and making it more difficult than it should be for me to get all this off the ground.

I didn’t build this?? The hell you say!

Long Strange Trip

I started this blog five years ago in August because we were getting ready to move from Ohio to California and I thought it would be a good place to dump photos, let people know what was happening and in general keep in touch.

I grabbed WordPress (mainly because I hate Google) and a theme, then another theme, and another, until I found this one and settled on it. I knew nothing really about the blogging world, except that I had stumbled across Rachael Lucas’ site and was reading her stuff, which led me to other stuff, etc….

Now, I’m running my own business out of a WordPress blog and made my first sale, I have a son, I’m back in New Mexico, and the wife and I are thinking of adding another member to the vast right wing conspiracy.

It really has been a long strange trip.
