Has a heck of a lot of FAIL going on. They fired an employee for wearing an American flag pin.

Late to the party, but what the heck.

Representatives for the Casa Monica Hotel are defending a company policy that prohibits employees from wearing badges and buttons, even American flag pins.

“The American flag greets every guest and employee with its symbolism of our belief in this great country,” according to a statement from the Casa Monica Hotel. “However, our employee handbook clearly states, ‘No other buttons, badges, pins or insignias of any kind are permitted to be worn.’ “

Then maybe, in the interest of not being a bag of steaming crap, you should change the policy to allow your employees to wear an American flag pin.

Jackasses. Guess I’ll be staying at the Holiday Inn from now on.

And this was done, not by a drone, but by an honest-to-god airplane flown by an American pilot.

Today is a good day

**UPDATE**

The news just gets better and better, seems it was TWO US born terrorists that are now basking in their own personal hell, though this article says it was a drone strike, which is only a small disappointment to me

My mom sent this to me:

We must never forget who deserves the credit for the freedoms we have, of which we should be
eternally grateful.

I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease..

I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He’d stand out in any crowd.

I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil
How many mothers’ tears?

How many pilots’ planes shot down?
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers’ graves?
No, freedom isn’t free.

I heard the sound of Taps one night,
When everything was still,
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.

I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant “Amen,”
When a flag had draped a coffin.
Of a brother or a friend.

I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.

I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn’t free

Last week I flew off to Albuquerque for a job interview. I’ve been looking out here in Austin and fired off a ton of resumes but nothing came up so I took the one that came through which means that – once again – I get to load a truck, get the cats into a carrier, and hit the road. We’ll probably do it in two days and stop in Lubbock TX as the midpoint because if we tried to push all the way through my parents would skin me alive when we got there.

The job isn’t in my field, but it seems that no one is hiring in the game design field right now probably because everyone is waiting to see how badly the lame duck Congress is going to molest them before the end of the year. I’ll be doing customer service on the phone and also trying to get a part time job as well to bring in some extra cash until I can get something going in my field which will hopefully happen sometime in the coming year.

Still have the thesis to finish up but that is just going to have to happen when it happens because with our first kid on the way providing food, shelter, clothing and medical insurance takes a much higher priority than getting the piece of paper.

Since most everything is still in storage it shouldn’t be too much trouble getting it all onto a truck and hitting the road. Plus, thanks to some help on the other end from my parents who did a lot of house hunting for us, we now have a nice 3 bedroom place to move into that has gas stove, fireplace and a two car garage so I will have a place to not only park, but also some workshop room since we only have the Saturn.

So, I won’t be blogging for a bit (not that anyone would really notice) as we get everything loaded up and moved on out. Pictures will follow – most likely taken by my lovely wife and mother of of my child.

It figures that MSNBC would give this douchebag airtime and start the whole thing out with:

“From the wrongful wars to the corrupt economy, to the special interests in the six industries that control every politician in this country, the political system itself; 75% of all districts in the most competitive election ever weren’t even up for grabs last week and to clear our problems may require more drastic measures.”

So the wars we are fighting, which Congress voted on and approved, are wrongful because…. oh yeah, they just don’t like it. So, it doesn’t matter if all the laws were followed in the steps leading to these wars, if a lefty doesn’t like it, it’s wrong.

And the economy that is corrupt? Well, who’s responsible for creating the institutions that (as our Teleprompter Jesus likes to say) drove us into the ditch??? Let’s see – Fannie Mae was created back in 1970 when Democrats had control of both the House (243 – 192) and the Senate (57 – 43).

Fannie Mae is the one that expanded their lending under Clinton so that they gave loans to people that couldn’t afford to pay the loan back and to top it all of, in 2005 when the Bush administration pushed to get some regulatory oversight of them was met with such push back from the Democrats and RINO’s (who again controlled Congress) that it never reached the Senate floor and eventually we watched as the housing market crashed and pulled everything down with it.

As for the “Six industries that control every politician” maybe he should open his eyes a little wider. Seems to me the ones with the most union money in their pockets have always been the Democrats. Union money went 90% Democrat. As for what the ‘six industries are’ I won’t play guessing games and intuit what one he is referring to, to me this comes off as a throw away line. He spouts that and we are supposed to nod our heads and just agree without any kind of names or numbers.

The ‘author’ also likes to use big words like ‘duopoly’ (that means Republicans and Democrats together) and to them the only answer to this political turmoil that could come from within the system is that we need another FDR. Yeah, we need another FDR like we need another WWII. There is no problem that can’t be made worse by the government throwing money at it. If they REALLY wanted money to come from the top 2% and make it to the working classes, government theft of that money isn’t the way to do it. Instead might I suggest a little remembered solution to a financial crisis that Calvin Coolidge came up with? He lowered taxes across the board, reduced government spending and gave our country a little time period we refer to as “The Roaring Twenties” which saw the largest growth of the middle class that we have ever seen.

The douchebag author also scoffs at reducing the size of government. Why? Well, that would put those poor government employees out of a job which would add to unemployment. The stupidity is so thick here you would need a chainsaw to cut it. They keep talking and whining, but the part I love best is they go on about how the political system isn’t changing and that there isn’t any “third party” that is stepping in to change things. I guess neither one of them watched any of the TEA party rallies or saw how many TEA party backed candidates were elected into office across the nation.

Nope, we are a whole crapload of doom and gloom here at MSNBC. The country is lost and the only way to save it – as a last resort of course - is to have a violent revolution because no meaningful change every happens without violence.

Yeah, I can’t wait for them to try that one.

Oh, and his so called “political cartoons” are not only unfunny, but the artwork is crap.

Well, we’ve been in Texas for about a week or so and we are getting settled in fairly well. I am very pleased to see that there is a Sonic Drive-in just up the street from us and the local fast food places are all represented well within reasonable driving distances including a Schlotzsky’s Sandwich shop, which I haven’t seen since the one in Hilliard closed down about four years ago.

Another pleasant surprise has been that they all use Styrofoam cups. Out in California they only allow plastic or paper cups – saving the environment and all that – so during the summer, 15 minutes after you get your drink the ice is melted and your wonderful, caffeinated, sugar-loaded beverage becomes a watered down disappointment. Now though, I can go through my fast food place of choice and know that my beverage will last as long as my meal does.

Freedom is good.

In other news, one of the cats got fleas. Don’t know if it was one of ours or one of Ginny’s, but anyway I have been waging a war against them for the past few days. All the animals have been given their Advantage treatment and everything has been vacuumed daily for the last two days.

Normally you could just spray some kind of bug stuff and be done with it, but since the wife is pregnant that isn’t an option. Also, bug stuff and cats usually don’t go well together either so instead I did some reading and found out that if you put salt down on the carpet and leave it for two days it will kill off the fleas. So, in two days I’ll let you know how well it worked.

Have a phone interview for a job on Friday. I made it past the first part with the tests and everything so now it’s phone interview and then I expect after that it will be time for an in person interview. Hope I get it, it will be nice to have some income moving, benefits and all that stuff. It’s not a job in my field, but it will allow me to keep working on my stuff and chasing a job in my field, which I guess is the most important part.

Went to the store this morning for some basics; Bread, milk, OJ, that kind of stuff. If I had picked it all up in California it would have been about $30 bucks or more. Out here it cost me a grand total of $19.21. Man I love living in a free state. I could get used to this.

Can’t wait to see what my car insurance is going to look like.
