The truth is that there are too many victims and they know it

She’s right, we do know this., which is why we want to make sure that there are fewer victims by enabling people to defend themselves.  There is no more effective way for any person to protect themselves against any form of violence – guns, knives, fists, bats, chains, broken bottles, pool cues – than to have a firearm.

A small woman like my wife who is 5’1 1/4″ (she’s proud that she is over the 5’1″ mark) can effectively stop an attacker that is 6’4″ and 385 lbs with a firearm.  Mace is not guaranteed to stop an attacker, neither is a tazer, emergency whistle or a candle.

During and after the candlelight vigils  to honor victims of gun violence, the gun rights extremists ramped up their rhetoric. Victims make them nervous. They don’t like victims. They say we are “dancing in the blood of victims” when we light candles and ring bells. What’s that all about anyway?

What its about is that victims don’t make us nervous, they make us sad because we KNOW that many of those victims would not be victims if they had an effective means to defend themselves – a means that YOU and your people would like to deny us under the flag of “common sense gun laws”.

I have yet to see a gun control law that has had any effect on reducing crime or stopping it.  If you look at the facts, the only effect these so called ‘common sense’ gun control laws have had is to increase crime. You can go to Stranger’s site and see for yourself.  Article after article shows when gun control laws were enacted, crime increased.  Period.  Remove the useless restrictions on gun ownership and crime goes down because the only ones who have cared about the laws to begin with weren’t criminals.

In fact, the homicide rate for 2010 has been one of the lowest ever. With more and more states allowing CCW and real common sense gun laws homicide has dropped off the top 15 causes of death in the US.  Higher gun ownership and fewer murders.

Joan, how is it possible if guns are so bad and need to be controlled that homicides have dropped when gun sales are up??  Also, how is it if guns are so bad and gun control so good that the places with the strictest gun control laws also have the highest crime rates??

As my friend Jennifer said, you are making empty gestures with your candles instead of finding actual solutions to the problem.  We have a solution – get a gun and learn how to use it.  In the end the only person that can protect you is YOU, and a candle is no protection at all.

Lowe’s Home Improvement has found itself facing a backlash after the retail giant pulled ads from a reality show about American Muslims.

The retail giant stopped advertising on TLC’s “All-American Muslim” after a conservative group known as the Florida Family Association complained, saying the program was “propaganda that riskily hides the Islamic agenda’s clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values.”

And what is said Democrat from California doing in response to Lowe’s pulling the ads?  Why, he wants a boycott and ‘Legislative action’ which to my mind means that Congress will pull out some trumped up BS so they can grandstand

Calling the Lowe’s decision “un-American” and “naked religious bigotry,” Sen. Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, told The Associated Press he would also consider legislative action if Lowe’s doesn’t apologize to Muslims and reinstate its ads. The senator sent a letter outlining his complaints to Lowe’s Chief Executive Officer Robert A. Niblock.

“The show is about what it’s like to be a Muslim in America, and it touches on the discrimination they sometimes face. And that kind of discrimination is exactly what’s happening here with Lowe’s,” Lieu said.

Honestly, I find the entire idea of anti-discrimination laws to be absurd.  How many people have not gotten a job and were told “We found someone more qualified” when what they really meant was “Your too old/ blonde/ tall/ short/ whatever…”  The idea of law as behavior modification, to me, goes against the entire idea of freedom.

If someone wants to be a bigot, let them.  I hope they post a big freaking sign outside of their business saying “No _______ allowed!” because then I would know NOT to spend my money there.  Now, those same bigots have just taken it underground.

As far as Lowe’s goes, I can understand them not wanting to advertise on a show that might be a controversial subject, and that is their RIGHT to pick where they want their ad money to go.  For Lieu to say that he will try some sort of legislative action for Lowe’s spending their money how they see fit is not only reprehensible but shows exactly how the leftist mindset goes – You have no rights except what they want you to have.

I have a few more tools to buy for the shop so I think I’ll head over to Lowe’s today even though they are farther away than Home Depot.

But since police in riot helmets, batons and riot shields ousted them from their two-month encampments, Occupy Wall Street protesters singled out officers as another enemy, saying their crowd control tactics were an excessive, chilling use of force against free speech.

Right, because how dare we, the public, demand that actual laws be enforced.  You know, since it’s a privately owned park and all, the smelly hippies should be able to just do whatever they want there and to hell with private property right?  Well, to hell with YOUR property rights that is – they still don’t want anyone else – especially from outside the group – using their stuff.

Tear gas in Oakland, Calif., pepper spray that hit an 84-year-old Seattle woman in the face and hundreds of arrests of demonstrators and journalists at Occupy protests across the U.S. this week shone the spotlight on the varying crowd control tactics of police, most who used helmets and riot gear as they broke up encampments in New York and other cities.

Yeah, and it’s not like she is an activist with a long history of this kind of behavior I guess that the laws shouldn’t be enforced against someone because of their age?

The press is so determined to protect these jackasses that they throw out headlines like this to make it appear that these selfish little twits were out there peacefully holding their signs and expressing their displeasure with the state of the economy instead of what was really going on – a bunch of spoiled brats having a temper tantrum and once we had enough they finally got spanked.

Personally, I think all of them should be given a job – breaking large rocks into small ones and then cleaning up litter on the side of the road for a year while wearing nice shiny leg irons.  They might also finally use a shower too.

Haberfeld and other policing experts said the crowd control was aggressive, but not excessive. But First Amendment experts said that every interaction with demonstrators, particularly when televised nationally, can thwart the goal of protests and discourage others from joining.

“That’s really is terribly inhibiting,” said New York attorney Herald Fahringer. “Because people say, ‘Gee, well, I don’t want to go out there and join the protest if I run the risk of getting hit over the head with a billy club.”

And this is a bad thing how???

Obama said it’s important to remember that the U.S. is still the largest receiver of foreign investment in the world and things like stability, openness and innovative free market culture are attractive. He also said there are a lot of things that make foreign investors see the U.S. as a great opportunity – like stability, openness, our innovative free market culture.

“But we’ve been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades. We’ve kind of taken for granted — well, people will want to come here and we aren’t out there hungry, selling America and trying to attract new business into America, Obama said.

He then went on to say things his administration has done like setting up Select USA that organizes government agencies in an attempt to make it easier for foreign investors to set up a plant in the U.S.

Uh-huh.  It’s always us plebeian workers who are sitting on our ass or out playing golf while Dear Reader must carry us on his broad shoulders into the future because we are to lazy to walk there ourselves.

It couldn’t be that we aren’t getting investments from outside, or inside, our own country because we have had a Congress that has created a labyrinth of bureaucratic rules that no sane person could ever make sense of, or because we have regulatory groups like the EPA, NLRB, and OSHA that create their rules from ideology rather than rational thought processes like a normal human would – no, that can’t be it.

I will also bet that the “Unicorn and Rainbows” legislation that is Obamacare – whoops, the Dems don’t want to use that phrase anymore - the “United States (you won’t have any) healthcare plan – yeah, that didn’t kill any job at all, did it?  Bet it’s just made foreign investors say “Damn, let’s get a piece of that action.  I mean, look how well Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have worked out!  What could go wrong with this?”

I will also bet someone’s money, not my own – not that dumb, that the payoffs to Democrat supporters and bundlers commonly known as the “Stimulus Package” didn’t hurt anything either, right?  I mean, it’s not like businesses and people aren’t going to have to pay off the debt that our government created by spending worse than a drunken sailor on shore leave.  Hell, I knew to stop drinking when I was out of cash – Congress isn’t that smart and Obama is on the bottom of THAT bell curve.

It’s not like Boeing had created 1,000 jobs in South Carolina before they were sued by the NLRB.  The reason?  They weren’t union jobs.

You know, things like that wouldn’t make a company reconsider expanding, or even investing, in the American marketplace.  When the rules of the game keep changing in the middle of the game, how many people will really want to play?

“I’ve been told, ‘Watch your back!’ 10 times,” Stacey Tzortzatos, owner of Panini & Co. Breads, located across from Zuccotti Park, told The Post yesterday.

She and her employees are terrified by the constant threats, which she said began after she demanded the protesters stop using her shop’s restroom as a place to bathe every day.

The final straw came about two weeks ago, when the demonstrators broke a bathroom sink, flooding the shop, and clogged the toilet — setting her back $3,000 in damages.

But hey, they aren’t making outrageous demands, right?

And on Friday, she said, a crazed squatter burst into the shop and demanded that workers fill a 10-gallon container of water.

When they refused, “he banged it on the ground and started yelling” and threatened the staff, she said.

“He said he was entitled to have it for free.”

OK, well, it’s not like things are so bad that the police had to get involved.

“I have the police in here 10 times a day, [and] I’m the bouncer. I’ve been called the spawn of the devil. “It’s unbelievable what goes on in here every day, ” Tzortzatos said.

Of course, all of these problems would go away, or at least be diminished, if the people of New York were allowed to actually defend themselves, but since they have a Mayor that no only supports these protesters even though he is one of the people they are protesting about  (the word “useful idiots” comes to mind – and I don’t know if I mean the mayor, the protestors, or both) but is also a radical, anti-gun nutjob means that this situation will just keep getting worse until someone is killed and then they will just try and blame it on the right.

Keep your guns clean and your ammo dry, I think there’s an even rougher road ahead.

Coffee cart owner Linda Jenson and hot dog cart operators Letty and Pete Soto said they initially provided free food and drink to demonstrators, but when they stopped, the protesters became violent.

And according to one city councilman, bodily fluids were used in the attacks.

“Both carts have had items stolen, have had their covers vandalized with markings and graffiti, as well as one of the carts had urine and blood splattered on it,” said Councilman Carl DeMaio.

Yep, if you can’t find a real gun owner to support your cause – make one up.  Standard lefty tactics in action.

With concealed carry laws in effect, I can’t be too lax about casual encounters anymore. I have to remind myself to be aware of any sudden movements or suspicious behavior by individuals while in public space.

Even driving back and forth from home to work takes on a new relevance. I have to make it a point to be more courteous to fellow motorists and exhibit extreme road courtesy in all situations.

You can’t be flipping anybody off in the age of concealed carry, that’s for sure.

Hate to tell you this, but a lot of holsters will do a very good job of tucking the firearm in so you won’t have that bulge. Also, the people who would be acting suspicious or having “sudden movements” are probably the bad guys and (I know, this will be hard to hear) they won’t be CC permit holders.

Thankfully, the “No Weapons Allowed in the Building” sign has been posted at my job, which was a great relief for some of us who write the kind of stories that occasionally get the public agitated.

Yeah, because we all know those “No Weapons” signs are like a magic shield that makes anyone with a weapon incapable of entering the building.  Look how well it worked out at Virginia Tech.

I’ve traveled to many of the states that allow concealed carry – you probably have, too – and can attest to the fact the law doesn’t contribute to any greater or lesser sense of public safety.

Most times, you don’t even think about it.

Pro-gun advocates insist concealed carry laws lead to a decrease in crime, but statistics don’t bear that out in any discernible way. Apparently, there aren’t a lot of stories about concealed carry “heroes” rising up to stop crime.

Really??? I would love to know what stats you are looking at, because the ones I’ve seen show that the more we protect ourselves the more crime goes down.   But I am sure it’s just an aberration that crooks don’t target people when then think those individuals are armed.

I’ve heard all the arguments, but I’m still not sure why any ordinary citizen would feel the need to carry a gun in public for self-defense. What also doesn’t make sense to me is the idea that having more guns will make us safer instead of the other way around.

Uh-huh.  Heard all the arguments have you and yet you still can’t understand how a 102 lb woman would be safer when she is armed from Joe Biden’s 200 lb rapist than if she just tried to scare him of with a police whistle and a cell phone?  Are you sure you are competent to be functioning in society without a keeper then because it’s pretty damn obvious to me and a lot of other people.

Face it, you don’t trust yourself to handle a firearm and so you don’t think anyone else should have one either.

Well, I’m afraid that’s one fear you’ll either have to get over, or you can move to that gun free, crime free  paradise of Chicago.

President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign is asking artists to design promotional posters that convey a message: “support American jobs.” The brutal irony for artists, however, is that they will receive no payment for their work.

The campaign, which has $61 million on hand, will reward only the three artists whose work is selected for use. The compensation? A copy of their artwork, signed by the president.
